I was up at 5.00 am and started work on site at 7.00 am. Stopped at 18.45.
Today I was hoping to erect the scaffolding on the West Side of the house using the materials I took down last week from the back veranda.
Working conditions were pleasant up to 10.00 am as the building shaded me from the sun.
It was a slow start however. I am finding that it is always time consuming to build the first bay. You need to temporarily clamp uprights in position and make a number of design decisions before you can make a start..
Once the first bay is complete it is relatively easy to clamp longitudinals off the existing uprights and fairly quickly set up the subsequent structures.
Today was a very hot day and between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm I had no shade.
In fact the area at the back door was a heat trap.
I had to work 5 minutes on and 5 minutes off or else I started to experience extreme heat symptoms.
Also I needed to chop some feet positions in to the bank of soil.
Despite the heat I managed to install 4 out of the required 6 bays.
Around the gas bottle area and the back door area I was not able to install all the normal cross bars.
Once I have finished the main structure I will see which lengths I have left over and add in some diagonal bracing where I can.
I was contemplating taking next week off but now I am keen to finish the scaffolding job.
